Carolyn Davis is a ceramic artist with twenty years’ experience creating vessels rich in color and gesture. Carolyn works from her studio in Missouri, weaving her interest in natural history, folklore, and urban legend into her ceramic vessels. While versed in wheel throwing, she prefers hand-building her pieces from clay slabs.
“Hand-building helps me introduce asymmetry into the form; an individual flaw or character quirk that I can capitalize on for the development of the piece.”
After a career as a graphic designer Carolyn Davis returned to school in her mid-50’s, earning a B.F.A in ceramics and a minor in printmaking and bookmaking from the University of Central Florida. She has continued her education in ceramics through workshops with Sandi Pierantozzi, Patti Warashina, and Lisa Clague. Carolyn taught ceramics for fifteen years at Osceola Arts, Kissimmee, FL before her move in 2022 to the Ozark Mountains in Missouri.
“With a focus on good proportions and craftsmanship, I introduce quirkiness and humor into each of my sculptural pieces.”
She still enjoys teaching and has conducted clay workshops at Ava Art Guild, Ava, Missouri. When not tromping through the woods or out rock hunting in the creek, Carolyn continues to participate throughout the year in a range of award-winning art shows, fairs, and galleries.

“Ratfink, the back of cereal boxes, Chagall and color theory have all shaped my art, and now added to that, the sunshine, cheerfulness and beauty of the Ozarks.”
